A loving home for every child!

The recently constructed SOS Children's Village Khairpur is situated on land donated by the Government of Sindh. In it’s first phase , five family homes out of fifteen have been built and were inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Sindh in February, 2016.

Khairpur is a city and the capital of the Khairpur district in Sindh province, Pakistan. It is the twelfth largest city in the province. The city is situated along the Khairpur East Canal, 11 miles south of the Indus River. It is connected by rail with Peshawar and Karachi and by road with Sukkur and Karachi. It was a Princely state of Pakistan from 1947 till 1955. After the establishment of the state of Pakistan in 1947, Khairpur developed industrially, with textile, silk, leather goods, silk clothing, matches, soap, shoes and carpet manufactures. The city had an estimated population of 127,857 in 2006.

Construction of SOS Children’s Village Khairpur

The Sindh Government allotted, free of cost, land measuring about 8 acres and also gave a grant of Rs. 50 million. It was decided to split the project into two phases, with the 1st phase comprising five children’s homes and all infrastructure facilities including community centre, children’s activity rooms, auditorium, residences for the Village Director and guests, theatre, etc.

The highly functional and good-looking design of all the facilities attracted very favourable comments from all concerned. It has been decided that Phase 2 of the project will be limited to 5 children’s homes to be completed in June, 2017, with the remaining 5 homes for Phase 3 to be completed in October, 2017.

Once complete, the Village would be able to accommodate up to 150 children. The main stake holders for this program include the local SOS Voluntary Committee, SOS Children’s Village Sindh, SOS Pakistan National Office, Government of Sindh, Khairpur District government, Social Welfare Department, employees of SOS, and the surrounding community.
