Success Stories

Afzal

Mohammad Afzal, along with his brother Subhan was admitted to the SOS Children's Village Lahore in 1980 at the age of 11. And in the year 2000, he offered to finance the construction of a new family home in the same Village where he grew up. He is the first and the only former SOS child in the entire worldwide network of SOS Children's Villages who has the privilege of donating a home.

Afzal was passionate about sports and was an excellent football player. He also enjoyed cycling and, entirely on his own initiative, organized a cycle tour to various parts of the country to raise awareness about the work of SOS Children’s Villages.He was also a brilliant student and had exceptional artistic talent as well as acting skills. In 1988, Afzal obtained admission to the National College of Arts, a prestigious institution of the country, to pursue a degree course in art. He also joined the Ajoka Theatre, an amateur theatrical group, where he gave some outstanding performances.

In 1992, this group visited Hong Kong, to participate in a theater festival, and Afzal was included in the troupe. He did not return to Pakistan and stayed on to make a new life there. He did extremely well, setting up an export business in computers.

Not only did he donate a home, he also made generous donations for his SOS siblings. He was always very appreciative of what SOS Children's Villages had given him and called it his "beautiful paradise". Afzal is now married and is a father of four children.

Waseem

Waseem joined SOS at the age of 8 along with his two brothers. He completed his graduation. He is happily married and a father of four children. He has been successful in making his own house. He is working as a Facility Manager at the Lahore University.

Zahir

Zahir was brought to an SOS Children’s Village at the age of 7. He initially studied at the Gateway International Public School & College in Abbottabad. He completed his BBA Hons from Gift University Gujrawala in 2009 and went on to obtain an MBA degree from the National College of Business Administration Lahore. Presently he is serving as a Programme Manager in AGHS (NGO).

Abida

Abida was admitted to an SOS Children’s Village at the age of four. She completed her O and A levels from Iqra Academy Abbottabad. She gained admission to the National College of Arts and qualified as an architect. Currently she is working with an architectural firm in Islamabad and applying for a scholarship for higher studies abroad.

Tanveer

Tanveer belongs to Azad Jammu and Kashmir . He was admitted to SOS at the age of 9, along with five siblings, after the devastating earth quake of 2005. He did his matriculation from the SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Lahore. Tanveer was an affectionate and obedient child. Currently he is undergoing a one year Japanese language course in Japan and after that will study for an engineering degree, fully sponsored by Ashinaga, a Japanese NGO.

Seemab

Seemab was brought to an SOS Village at the age of 7 along with her two brothers. Seemab is an intelligent, sweet and friendly girl.She was a very bright student, who completed her Masters degree in Mass Communication from the Punjab University. She is working as a Sales and Marketing Co-ordinator in a renowned TV channel.

Saba Shahzadi

Saba joined the SOS Children’s Village at the age of 9 along with her elder brother. Saba is a very intelligent and hardworking girl. She is very ambitious and determined to build a good career. Recently she has obtained her MSc degree in Biotechnology from Lahore University and got scholarship for the MPhil Programme.

Saddam Hussain

Saddam was admitted to the SOS Children's Village at the age of 3 along with his two sisters. He was a very bright student and always wanted to join Pakistan Army. He completed his matriculation and intermediate from the Cadet College. He was selected in Pakistan Army as a cadet at PMA (Pakistan Military Academy ) long course. Currently he is under training at (PMA) Kakul Abbottabad.

Mehnaz

Mehnaz was brought to an SOS Children’s Village at the age of 6. She completed her Intermediate from Iqra Academy Abbottabad and received her MBBS degree from Abbottabad International Medical College in 2009. She is working in a hospital as a Medical Officer.

Iqbal

Mohammad Iqbal was brought to an SOS Children’s Village at the age of 6. He passed the intermediate examination and later joined the Pakistan Air Force as a technician. He is married and has a house of his own in Jhang. Currently he is posted to Turkey by the PAF, for one year.

Zohaib

Zohaib was admitted to the SOS Children’s Village at the age of 10 along with his 2 sisters. Zohaib was a brilliant student and a very obedient boy. He worked as a volunteer in Azad Kashmir for helping the earth quake affected families in 2005. He completed his graduation in Commerce from the Karachi University. He is working as a Customer Service Officer in the Pakistan International Airline.
